Kentucky basketball fans find themselves stuck in a dilemma. Kentucky fans have an undying fever for basketball and when it comes to the NBA, there's not a team in the state of Kentucky (looking at you Pitino and Jurich).
So when it comes to the NBA, who should be the favorite team of the Big Blue Nation? I too, have struggled to latch onto an NBA team, and with so many UK players in the league, Cats fans have a lot of options. Here, we'll take a look at some possible options for Cats fans to latch onto.
Note: I'm only going to list teams that have more than one former Kentucky player on their roster.
1. New Orleans Pelicans (Anthony Davis, Darius Miller)
The newly-named Pelicans are a favorite among Cats fans because they are home to two of the most-loved players off of the 2012 championship team. The Pelicans almost became the adopted team of the BBN when they drafted Noel , but traded him to Philly. The Pelicans aren't exactly a title contender, but now adding Jrue Holiday, are closing in on being a playoff contender.
2. Sacramento Kings (DeMarcus Cousins, Patrick Patterson, Chuck Hayes)
Three very beloved players all on the team. However, Cousins future with the team has been very uncertain. Cousins is one of the best young centers in the league, but has had some issues in Sacramento and his name has been brought up in several trade rumors. They also just drafted Ben McLemore, so the Kings are still a few years away from being a contender, but have plenty of young talent.
3. Phoenix Suns (Eric Bledsoe, Archie Goodwin)
Eric Bledsoe was just traded to Phoenix yesterday, where he is expected to become the starting PG. If Archie can come in, and prove himself worthy, we could have a Big Blue Backcourt starting in Phoenix. The Suns also added Alex Len in this year's draft, and are a few years from being much of a contender.
4. Chicago Bulls (Marquis Teague, Nazr Mohammed, Derrick Rose [Kinda])
This is a popular one as well. Many Kentucky fans have kind of taken Derrick Rose in as one of their own, because he was coached by Cal and was kind of the start of the Calipari point guard dynasty. Rose and Cal have remained very close even after Rose left Memphis, so many UK fans have cheered for Rose in his NBA career. Marquis Teague is a back-up to Rose but was productive in limited minutes last year. Nazr has played very few minutes but has also shown a mean streak for pushing Lebron around.
5. Boston Celtics (Rajon Rondo, Keith Bogans)
Rajon Rondo is about all that's left from last year's Celtics team. The Celtics have went into rebuilding mode and Rondo's future has been in question. Keith Bogans was added to the team as part of the Nets trade. The Celtics are looking to rebuild through the draft, stockpiling draft picks for the next few years, so I can see the Celtics as a possibility for adding more UK players in the next few years.
6. Oklahoma City Thunder (Daniel Orton, Deandre Liggins)
The Thunder have been somewhat of a "Bandwagon team" in the last few years due to recent success and an exciting brand of basketball, with Durant, Westbrook, and Serge Ibaka. Orton and Liggins receive very limited minutes on the team, but the Thunder play exciting basketball.
There are other teams that have only one UK player (Jazz, Wizards, Grizzlies, 76ers, Rockets, Lakers, Magic, Pistons, Bobcats). Kentucky fans are apt to choose any team to consider any team their favorite due to no geographical pull.
